Emerald Envy

I have just fallen in love with emerald all over again! Lately, I’ve been seeing this colour in stores everywhere (H&M, Zara, Forever21, the usual…) and I just think it’s a perfect colour to transition into Fall with.

Emerald just so happens to be my birth stone (I’m a May baby), so it makes for a good excuse to invest in some jewels. It is a very expensive stone, unfortunately, so I might have to stick with costume jewellery for the time being!

And since green is on my mind, I must confess: I am so sick of mint green!!!! It may be slightly hypocritical of me to announce that while looking at my mint nail polish, but I had to say it. I am planning to retire the colour until next spring. Who’s with me?

I love emerald because it is such a rich and regal colour. Pair it with gold accents and you’ll have your fellow fashionistas green with envy! I also love it when contrasted again cobalt blue.

Here are some images that have inspired me to embrace emerald this fall:

Satin Trousers from Zara – $49.90

Show off your body in this fitted dress from Forever 21 for $10.50! (I do not recommend pairing this little number with hooker heels!)

Yves Saint Lauren Cabas Chyc leather tote – $2150 from Net-A-Porter. I would LOVE a YSL bag before they change names to “Saint Laurent Paris”… sigh.

Kate Bosworth rocking a sequined emerald mini

What other colours are you looking forward to wearing this fall?

Always chic,

White: Black’s Friendlier Twin

It is true that white is black’s paler, less slimming twin – but it won’t have you looking like a solemn widow. White is softer and prettier. It is a no-matching-required option for creating a super chic outfit!

It is no secret, however, that many women are afraid to wear white because it can be challenging to make white look flattering on your body.

Here are some ideas to help make white work for you.

Pretty Peplum

Peplum is figure-flattering and feminine because it cinches in at the waist, then floats away from the midsection – and it’s all the rage for Spring 2012.

I recommend a white peplum dress or pair a peplum blouse with cigarette pants or a pencil skirt.

Maxi Dresses

Maxi dresses are the most effortless and comfortable article of clothing you can wear. They elongate your silhouette and flow away from your body. A white maxi dress is an easy way to master the all-white look. Pair it with chunky wooden jewellery and you’ll look like a bohemian goddess.

The Androgynous Look

If frills and long dresses are not your thing, give the androgynous look a try. Pair wide-leg pants with a structured blazer or blouse. You’ll look crisp and confident in this classic combination.

So, try on white for a change!

You may be surprised with how chic you look when you switch over to the lighter, brighter side.

Always chic,

L.
