Lana Del Rey’s H&M campaign!!!!!

If you can’t tell by all my exclamation marks, I am super excited that, after what felt like forever waiting, Lana Del Rey’s campaign for H&M has launched!

As the preview I posted back in July demonstrated, she looks absolutely flawless (well, duh, she is flawless)!

I love her big beauty queen hair, pouty lips, and and sultry poses. As for the clothes, I particularly like the peach angora sweater and gray tweed dress.

Check out the commercial and ad campaign below:

What are your thoughts on the campaign? Isn’t she absolutely stunning?

I have been listening to her album 24/7 for the last two months, and have developed a serious girl crush. So, I may be slightly bias.

Always chic,

Met Gala 2012

Forget the Oscars and Grammys, any fashion fanatic would agree that the Met Gala is the biggest night for red carpet glamour.

This year’s Met Gala, in celebration of Prada and Schiaparelli’s exhibit titled Impossible Conversations, proved to be another exceptional night of high fashion fabulousness.

From feminine and flirty peplum to the Return of the Cape (after Gwytneth Paltrow stole the show at the Oscars), there were some celebs that deserve honorable mentions.

My Favourites

Solange Knowles in a peplum Rachel Roy gown.

Lana Del Rey looking mysterious and gorgeous in Joseph Altuzzara, complete with a cape.

Camille Belle looked stunning in an old Hollywood glamour inspired Ralph Lauren gown.

Coco Rocha rocking pink hair and vintage Givenchy – previously worn by Elizabeth Taylor. Not your typical Met Gala attire but I thought it was fun and fresh!

Their were also more than a few risk-takers, or as I call them:

The Peculiars

Marc Jacobs in a lace dress. I repeat: Lace. Dress.

Florence Welch in Alexander McQueen. I know it’s couture, but I despise it. It’s a weird combination of Big Bird meets the Christmas tree.

It’s hard to miss Christina Ricci in this ridiculous Thakoon dress that features an obscenely large bow.

Mary-Kate Olsen looking frightening and frazzled in this weird widow-inspired look.

What were your favourite looks from this year’s Met Gala?

Look sleek and chic in the maxi dress

Long and lean.

Flirty and feminine.

Effortless yet glamorous.

These are some words that come to mind when I think of how I want to look and feel this spring and summer.

My solution: the maxi dress.

Maxis are a one-piece wonder for an instantly sleek silhouette. Feel comfortable in the summer heat while looking super chic.

They are easy to transition from day to night. During the day, pair it with sandals or flip flops. At night, change into colourful wedges or platform pumps.

Maxi dresses are always fun to accessorize. I recommend lots of arm candy – wooden bangles or a chunky cuff are always a great choice. Pair it with oversized sunglasses, a fun statement ring, and a clutch to look even more fabulous.

From your staple black maxi to fun, geometric prints – here are some great picks for under $30!

Forever 21 Printed Maxi - $29.50

Forever 21 V-Neck Maxi - $17.50

Forever 21 Strapless Tribal Maxi - $16.50

Forever 21 Colour Blocked Maxi - $14.50

If you like one (or all) of these dresses and you can’t find your size online, try again later because they restock frequently. I recently bought the black v-neck and mint colour blocked maxi dresses online.

Always chic,

Pretty in Peplum

I have to admit, it was only recently – as in just last week – when I learned what peplum was. And ever since, I’ve been obsessed. It’s also a fun word to say, as demonstrated in my poetic alliteration, “pearly pink patterned peplum”.

What is it
Peplum is a short overskirt attached to blouses, blazers, dresses and skirts, adding a flirty and whimsical dimension.

Why I love It
It’s figure-flattering and feminine because it cinches at the waist, then falls away from your midsection.

How to Wear It
If wearing a peplum blouse or blazer, keep the rest of the silhouette sleek by pairing it with cigarette pants as seen on the Pink Tartan runway, skinny jeans, or a pencil skirt.

With our first fashion week come and gone, and our closets finally back in order after a week of tearing through them for last minute outfit adjustments, we can breathe a sigh of bittersweet relief over here at crazy.classy.chic.

It was a fabulous week filled with phenomenal experiences, from watching amazing shows like Lucian Matis and Pink Tartan to the fun finale, Dare to Wear Love. There was the VIP experience provided by DHL where we got to meet Martin Lim, and the great fashion we saw Torontonians bring to the tents.

Red Carpet Recap: From a life-sized Oscar to a Tom Ford fantasy

Hollywood’s most glamorous night has come and gone…which means it’s time for a red carpet recap.

The Academy Awards are known for being traditional and classic Hollywood. However, they still bring some of the most anticipated red carpet style.

In fact, that carpet has seen some of the best fashion (Michelle Williams in that yellow Vera Wang, Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz)… and also some of the worst- Cher circa 1986, anyone? Or how about Angelina Jolie’s Morticia Adams-esque look of 2000? And then Gwyneth  Paltrow’s appalling 2002 choice

The 2012 Oscars saw most celebrities playing it safe on the red carpet- but there were definitely still some hits and misses.

Here are our takes on the best (and worst) looks of the night:

Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

M: Spectacular. Although I don’t think she’ll ever surpass her yellow Vera Wang, she still looks stunning in this red concoction. Although I could do without that ruff in the middle. Either way, she looks great- a huge improvement over her Golden Globes choice this year.

L: This dress is a silk and organza fantasy. I way prefer this dress over the yellow VW – love the fabric, texture and contrast against her pale skin.

Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen

M: Love her, love McQueen. And together, they make a great pair. She looks flawless and regal.

L: I completely disagree. I commend her for choosing such a bold print but I think it was too over-the-top. It resembled upholstery more than an Oscars gown. Her hair and $2 million of Harry Winston bling were nice though.

Rooney Mara in Givenchy

M: Rooney’s been dominating the red carpet. Loved her simple black gown at the Golden Globes, but this white, lacy number is beyond lovely. The blunt bangs work for her, too.

L: I had high expectations of Rooney Mara – especially after the spread of all her recent red carpet hits in the March issue of Vogue – and she did not disappoint. I love the combination of sharp features, black hair, red lips, and edgy bangs with the prettiness of this dress.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

M: Definitely not a fashion miss this year! Gwyneth is a vision in white- a colour that dominated the red carpet this year. Personally, I think she wore it best, although Octavia Spencer was a close second.

L: I was surprised to see so much white on the red carpet – but this one was in a league of its own. I was not expecting to see a cape, either, let alone one fabulous enough to make me want to wear one.

Berenice Bejo in Ellie Saab

M: On to worst-dressed… That green. Those strange bedazzles.

L: Awesome hair but she’s in second place for worst dressed. I like the shape but hate the colour and trim.

Stacy Keibler in Marchesa

M: I’m torn on this one. Yes, she looks like a life-sized Oscar, and the liquid gold look  could (and should) have been avoided. But somehow she still looks beautiful…maybe because she’s George Clooney’s arm-candy. Either way.

L: And the winner for worst dressed is…. DING DING DING. Hate it. Hate the colour, texture, style, and that hideous flower. I’m a huge fan of Marchesa – and before this, I was not aware they made ugly dresses.

Melissa Leo in Reem Acra

M: Umm…was she on her way to an ’80′s disco party at a church? Boring cut, too much sparkle.

L: I love sequins, but there is way too much going on here – and that collar is horrible. She needs to fire her stylist. Yikes!

From Coco to Givenchy : The Evolving Little Black Dress

Ah, the little black dress. Fashion staple number one, a must-have in every woman’s closet, and the most widely recognized symbol of elegant-yet-sexy fashion.

Chanel's artistic rendering of the little black dress, which appeared in American Vogue in 1926

The little black dress made its first appearance in 1926- and who else but Coco Chanel could have brought us such taste and sophistication? Although it may be hard to believe today, what with the LBD known for its chic and classic style, Chanel took a risk when creating the dress. In 1926, black was still reserved for mourning clothes, while bright colours, prints, and embroideries were all the rage. Choosing to design a completely black dress was a dance with fashion destiny, but, luckily for us, it paid off for Chanel. The LBD became known as the “Ford Dress” because, like the Model T car made by Ford at that time, it was black and an affordable design, which kept it popular during the thirties and forties.

The practicality of Chanel’s little black dress didn’t make it any less an item of haute couture, and many other designers created their own versions of her masterpiece. In fact, Hubert de Givenchy can be credited with catapulting the dress from simply being a fashion trend to a fashion icon with his famous take on the LBD in 1961’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

1960’s: Audrey Hepburn, Tiffany's, and Givenchy. We only have one word: unforgettable.

The little black dress has morphed along with the style changes of the decades, but remains a necessity in every woman’s closet to this day. So why do we love it so much?

Well, what is not to love, really? It’s timeless. It’s black, which means a whole lot of advantageous things, not the least of which is slimming. It’s versatile- wear it under a blazer with practical pumps to work, class it up with a single strand of pearls, or add some colourful jewellery and brilliant stilettos for a night on the town. Simply put, it’s ingenious.

Forever classy.

20 Pairs of Red Soles for 20 Years

Christian Louboutin, aka The Shoe Icon, is celebrating 20 years of success.

How? By launching The Capsule Collection - a collection that includes 20 new pairs of red soles.

There is a new pair of fabulous pair of shoes to represent each year Louboutin has been part of our lives… or part of our imagination.

At Bergdorf Goodman last week, shoe-a-holics united to meet the legend himself at a shoe-signing- in case owning a pair of the world’s hottest shoes isn’t enough, get them autographed.

It was hard to pick, but here are my favourites:

Stick a sock in it: an un-bun-lievable hair trend

Last night, I went rummaging around my dad’s sock drawer.

Why? I was looking for the latest hair accessory – a pair of sports’ socks.

The sock bun, as the name suggests, actually requires putting a pair of rolled up socks in your hair.

I was in disbelief, until I saw this YouTube tutorial and tried it out myself. I was amazed by the results!

My only suggestion is to avoid using white socks. The white, especially if you have dark hair, may show if your hair isn’t thick enough or placed tightly enough around the sock.

You wouldn’t want anyone to know you have a pair of socks in your hair, right?

Socks aside, the bun,  typically seen as a glamorous evening look, is making daytime appearances everywhere – making girls look a little more chic and put-together – and you can thank the Kardashians for that.

Kourtney and Kim frequently model a variety of buns on Kourtney and Kim Take New York. Want the look? Just search Kourtney or Kim’s bun on YouTube and you will find hundreds of tutorials!

Try out the sock bun for starters – if I can do it, I’m sure you can – and tweet me some feedback.

Always chic.

Ring a ting ting

Making a fashion statement doesn’t have to be as bold as cutting your bangs into a blunt line or wearing those Jeffrey Campbells that you adore but are unable to walk in without teetering like you took five shots of vodka earlier in the day.

Because while you love those trends and envy those who follow them, sometimes they are just a little too much for you, a little too far outside of your fashion-comfort zone.

Never fear! As we are always heralding here at crazy.classy.chic, accessories are key. You can stand out just as easily with some amazing bangles, feather earrings, or – one of our faves- statement rings.

Not only are they glamorous and beautiful, but they are a highlight in the winter months, when our accessory focus must contend with long sleeves and chunky scarves- leaving our fingers our most accessorize-able appendages!

When it comes to rings, very few restrictions apply. They can be big, they can be small. They can be bulky, they can be delicate. They can be colourful, they can be colourless.  As long as they correspond with your outfit, and are worn in relative isolation (too many = too tacky), you’re golden

Favourites from our personal collection

.Chic, classy….and even a little bit crazy.

*Besides statement rings, there is a new concept of ring-wearing trending: wearing rings mid-finger. Hmm…we’re on board!
