Oasis of the Seas: A Cruise Like No Other

It was a weird feeling for me to disconnect myself from blogging and tweeting while I went on vacation, but I’m glad I did. I was thrilled to be cruising the Caribbean with my family on a spectacular ship. We spent a few days in Fort Lauderdale, Florida prior to the cruise to shop at my favourite mall – Sawgrass Mills – the largest retail outlet in the United States. I can almost guarantee you that your money will run out before you cover a quarter of its outlet stores - but at least you’ll get great deals! Here are some of my fabulous finds:

Betsey Johnson ring – $20 – so sad all her stores are closing!

Steve Madden pumps – $25

Big Buddha crossbody/clutch from Saks – $25

Nine West wedges – 2 pairs for $75

After managing to fit my purchases into my already full suitcase, it was time to board the world’s largest ship – Oasis of the Seas. With 6200 guests last week and 2400 crew, this ship is like an incredible city on water. During the day, I’d love to be lazy on the pool deck or beach – tan, swim, drink and repeat. At night, after a delicious 3-course dinner, I enjoyed a variety of entertainment such as the broadway musical Hairspray, Las Vegas Motown performers, figure skating shows and diving shows in the first-ever Aqua Theatre. I also spent time (and money) in the casino, shopped along the Royal Promenade, and visited many different bars and clubs.

We went to two of my favourite islands, St. Maarten and St. Thomas, as well as the Bahamas. I also enjoyed having 4 days at sea to explore the enormous ship. Take a look at some pictures from my vacation:

I kept my outfits fairly simple. I wore a lot of dresses because they’re easy to wear and require little coordinating. I packed a few different clutches, plenty of fun jewellery, and ten pairs of shoes (oops).

So, are you ready to book your next vacation or what?

Fashion – or lack thereof – in the workplace

I may still be a student but I can’t hep but observe (and frown upon) the way many  career-oriented women dress.

I see a common theme of starched button-ups, cuff links, and dress pants. The only apparent difference between their wardrobe and that of their husband is the black pumps and clothing size.

Yes, there is a certain sexiness to the androgynous look – but if it’s all you wear, you just might be portraying yourself as a dull and ordinary business woman- which of course, you are not!

I know many women may use the It’s-Just-My-Work-Look excuse and claim to be much more fashionable outside of work. Whether that’s true or not, the reality is that we spend most hours of the day, more days of the week, and – you get the point – at work!

Why not reflect the confident and successful individual you are in what you wear- and look and feel fabulous while doing it?

I’m not saying dress like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, but there is a happy medium between being over-the-top and dressing for work.

Here are some tips for getting out of your workplace wardrobe funk:

  • Don’t wear white, black and gray all the time. If saturated colors are not your cup of tea, try out pretty shades like peach, cream and other pastels.
  • Overwhelmed by color? Take Brad Goreski‘s advice by adding a Pop Of Color (or POC for the cool kids) to your outfit. Spice things up by choosing one bold color to add to your neutral look – anything like a blazer, coat, costume jewellery, or shoes. I love this Michael Kors handbag in tangerine – the color really pops!
  • Don’t wear pants every day. Even if it’s just a few times a week, wear a pencil skirt or figure-flattering A-line skirt.
  • Trade in your structured, starched button-ups for feminine blouses – and try adding a silk scarf.

So Many Watches I Need Eight Arms

Okay, I lied. I only have three fabulous watches. I couldn’t resist quoting Jay-Z (see video below).

I don’t understand how some people see their phone as a replacement for a watch. Why would anyone pass up the chance to own a fabulous piece of arm candy? I may (frequently) struggle to tell the time on any of my watches- I mean, who uses analog anymore- but that won’t stop me from wearing one.

Rose gold, espresso, and gun metal are three trendy colours to add to your collection.

Here’s what I am coveting:

(I’m kind of obsessed with Marc by Marc Jacobs watches – They’re underrated!)

Here’s what I have:

My recommendation: don’t waste your time on two-tone watches – any excuse to buy another watch is a great idea.

…but that’s just my crazy opinion!
