3 Random Things I Miss About North America

I’m having the time of my life here in France so far but I thought I’d take a moment to rant about 3 things that I wish I had access to during my stay.

1) LARGE Take-out Coffee

I’ll have any kind of coffee when I need a coffee. There’s plenty of great coffee here in France but the serving size is laughable compared to what I’m used to - it’s more like a shot of coffee. I’m also having problems finding a coffee shop that has take-out cups. I was beyond disappointed when I went to McDonald’s yesterday, only to find out they had ONE size of coffee…and it was tiny. I understand that Europeans like to sit down and sip coffee but when I’m out I like to have a LARGE coffee by my side. I guess Europeans just don’t carry their coffee around like an accessory, unlike most North Americans.

2) Ellen DeGeneres

Although I’ve convinced myself that Ellen DeGeneres and I will be best friends at some point in my life, I’m having some sort of separation anxiety from not being able to watch her show. I miss coming home to the latest episode waiting for me on my PVR. The worst part is not being able to stream it!

3) My Puppy

Yes, I’m one of those crazy dog lovers. I have to admit that a little piece of my heart breaks every time I see a dog and its owner walk past me along the beach here. Of course I miss my friends and my family back home, but not having my puppy to happily greet me every time I come home is just sad!

Anyways, enough about what I miss! I am still so grateful to be living in France right now. I went shopping in Monaco the other day – if you can even call it shopping when the only affordable store is Zara – and it was lovely. Monaco is such a stunning and insanely rich place. Here are some pics from my trip:

Oasis of the Seas: A Cruise Like No Other

It was a weird feeling for me to disconnect myself from blogging and tweeting while I went on vacation, but I’m glad I did. I was thrilled to be cruising the Caribbean with my family on a spectacular ship. We spent a few days in Fort Lauderdale, Florida prior to the cruise to shop at my favourite mall – Sawgrass Mills – the largest retail outlet in the United States. I can almost guarantee you that your money will run out before you cover a quarter of its outlet stores - but at least you’ll get great deals! Here are some of my fabulous finds:

Betsey Johnson ring – $20 – so sad all her stores are closing!

Steve Madden pumps – $25

Big Buddha crossbody/clutch from Saks – $25

Nine West wedges – 2 pairs for $75

After managing to fit my purchases into my already full suitcase, it was time to board the world’s largest ship – Oasis of the Seas. With 6200 guests last week and 2400 crew, this ship is like an incredible city on water. During the day, I’d love to be lazy on the pool deck or beach – tan, swim, drink and repeat. At night, after a delicious 3-course dinner, I enjoyed a variety of entertainment such as the broadway musical Hairspray, Las Vegas Motown performers, figure skating shows and diving shows in the first-ever Aqua Theatre. I also spent time (and money) in the casino, shopped along the Royal Promenade, and visited many different bars and clubs.

We went to two of my favourite islands, St. Maarten and St. Thomas, as well as the Bahamas. I also enjoyed having 4 days at sea to explore the enormous ship. Take a look at some pictures from my vacation:

I kept my outfits fairly simple. I wore a lot of dresses because they’re easy to wear and require little coordinating. I packed a few different clutches, plenty of fun jewellery, and ten pairs of shoes (oops).

So, are you ready to book your next vacation or what?
